An Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar, has suggested that Amazon consider Shannon Airport as the location for its supply-chain hub.  The global retail giant currently has a fulfilment facility close to the Irish Army’s Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel in Dublin.  The Amazon hub in Dublin has a question-mark over it as it is the preferred site for states defence forces.  If the developments were to go ahead it would be good news for the region as Aer Lingus has recently announced that they will permanently close their base at Shannon.
