Sligo Rovers have announced plans for a €17.3m redevelopment of the Showgrounds, which would see it become a 6,000 all-seater UEFA category 3 stadium. Designed by Rhatigan Architects, the project would include the stadium itself and a separate academy base. Other facilities would comprise offices, a doctor’s surgery, a creche, a pharmacy, a gym and a club-house.
The project would however require a considerable amount of public funding, which would have to be tied down before turning the first sod.
