€3.7bn allocated to new hospitals in Cork, Galway and Dublin

3 D Personnel

The Irish government announced the approval of the Sláintecare Implementation Strategy & Action Plan 2021-23, which will see an investment of €3.7bn over three years in hospitals in Cork, Galway and Dublin.  While the news is welcomed there are discussions in Cork regarding the location and the type of hospital to be constructed.

Some are calling for the decision to be an outpatient hospital, while others feel that an inpatient hospital providing service 24/7 is required.  A site has not yet been decided upon, with Sarsfield Court in Glanmire, on the eastern side of Cork City, being the latest proposal.

It is hoped that the necessary decisions can be made shortly and that construction can commence in 2023.
