A further €13m will be invested in the Ulster Canal. €12m will be spent on Phase 2 of the Project, Clones to Clonfad, which includes an amenity area, car parking, paths, walking trails, access bridges as well as a new marina at Clones. €6m of the funding is being provided by the Government’s Shared Island Fund. The Rural Regeneration Development fund will also contribute €6m. €1m will be ploughed into a feasibility study of Phase 3 of the project, Clonfad to Castle Saunderson.
Waterways Ireland will be responsible for the delivery of the project, which it hopes to complete by 2024.
