1,000 new residential units for Cork

3 D Personnel

Planning permission has been granted for 1,000 new residential units on the former Ford Distribution site in Cork.  The existing structures which were the home to the “Live at the Marquee gigs” show, will be demolished and replaced by 12 blocks ranging in height from four to 14 storeys.  Marina Quarter Limited, a developer, will also build five retail units, two community resource spaces, a Montessori school, a medical centre, a café, a bar and a creche.

There was, however, mixed reaction as local councillors were not happy that An Bord Pleanála effectively bypassed their concerns.  Nonetheless An Bord Pleanála was satisfied that the proposed development “would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”  Planning permission includes 39 conditions, including preserving any archaeological material that may be found.

It is now known when the project will begin.  However, planning permission has been granted for seven years.
