£330m market for London’s Dagenham Dock

3 D Personnel

A £330m market is to be built on the old Barking Reach Power Station at London’s Dagenham Dock.  The current markets at Billingsgate, New Spitalfields and Smithfield  will be relocated to the new site which will mean having fish, fruit, vegetables, flowers, meat and poultry all under the one roof, creating the largest wholesale market in the UK on 42 acres.  A new school is also part of the plans.

Meanwhile, it is envisaged that 1,500 and 1,200 homes will be built on the Billingsgate and the New Spitalfields sites, respectively.  Smithfield may be converted into a cultural centre.

Tendering for the construction of the market will begin in January 2022.  However, the City of London Corporation has encouraged contractors to engage with them regarding their views.
