Construction of £7m distillery out to tender

3 D Personnel

The construction of a £7m distillery in Newry is to go out to tender shortly.  The plans include a restaurant, a Victorian bar, a visitor centre, and of course, a working distillery.  The whisky firm, Matt D’Arcy, dates back to 1817, successfully producing world renowned whiskies until it closed in 1918.  It was recently revived by local businessman and historian, Michael McKeown.

Construction was to begin in 2020.  However, it was held up due to the coronavirus.  It is now expected that building will begin in June of 2021.

Meanwhile, the Christmas sales of D’Arcy’s Old Irish Whiskey were hugely satisfactory; and Matt D’Arcy 17-year-old single malt won international whisky competitions in Las Vegas and San Francisco.
