The longest precast concrete bridge beams in Ireland and Britain, constructed in Banagher, Co. Offaly, have been placed across the River Laney in Macroom in Co. Cork.  The bridge is part of the €280m Macroom/Baile Mhuirne bypass project, which also includes the construction of a 22 km dual carriageway.  It took four nights to transport the seven beams, each one 50m long and 150 tonnes, from Banagher to Macroom.  Despite the delays caused by the coronavirus, the project is expected to open in the last quarter of 2023.
