We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Technician to join a dynamic and growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with CAD experience to play a key role in supporting mechanical design operations and ensuring high-quality manufacturing information.

This position is focused on delivering accurate 3D models, technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and release documentation, allowing Design Engineers to concentrate on innovation, problem-solving, and project delivery.

Salary: £30,000

Key Responsibilities

CAD & Drawing Support

Create and update 3D models using Autodesk Inventor

Produce detailed manufacturing drawings from 3D models

Maintain accurate, clear, and shop floor-ready drawings

Support drawing pack creation for manufacturing release

Implement controlled updates following design changes

BOM & Documentation

Create, update, and verify Bills of Materials (BOMs)

Ensure alignment between BOMs, drawings, and models

Support preparation of manufacturing release packs

Manage CAD files, revisions, and lifecycle updates within Vault

Maintain accuracy and reduce errors in released data

Design Team Support

Assist Mechanical Design Engineers with updates and CAD tasks

Implement changes following design reviews or feedback

Carry out minor design modifications under guidance

Maintain consistency across drawings, models, and documentation

Manufacturing Support

Respond to manufacturing queries on drawings and BOMs

Update designs to reflect production feedback

Help improve clarity and usability of shop floor information

Continuous Improvement

Follow and support internal CAD and drawing standards

Assist with template development and design library improvements

Contribute to process efficiency and error reduction initiatives

About You

Essential

Experience with 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred);

Ability to produce and interpret engineering drawings;

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills;

Basic understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing processes;

Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset.

Desirable

Experience with Autodesk Vault or PDM systems;

Knowledge of sheet metal, fabrication, and DXF generation;

Experience creating or checking BOMs;

Background in switchgear, enclosures, or similar environments;

Understanding of design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA);

Familiarity with revision control and release processes.
