Job Description

We have an immediate requirement to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team at BTU, reporting to the Commercial Manager and working closely with the Finance Manager. This role is based in Havant and is working on the Southern Water Framework, delivering planned and reactive maintenance projects as well as adhoc project work. This is a hands-on role would suit either a Senior QS looking to move into a MQS role or someone who is currently a MQS. Applicants should have a working knowledge of NEC3 and excellent inter-personal skills as well as strong contractual negotiation skills.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Monthly Commercial reports to be produced and issued to Client:
  • Cost value reconciliations (CVR)
  • Cost to complete (CTC)
  • Cashflow forecasts including interim updates
  • Work in progress
  • Internal Management Progress Reports (IMPR)
  • Report writing for Client, Senior Management/Directors
  • Produce monthly valuation applications by either:
  • Milestone achievement
  • Defined cost-plus fee via Client’s COINS system
  • Measurement take-off
  • Maintain contemporary change management throughout project(s), namely:
  • Timely notification to Southern Water in accordance with contract provisions
  • Agreeing entitlement and quantum with the Client’s client
  • Manage & mentor Junior Quantity Surveyors within the team
  • Client interface
  • Maintain Subcontract Administration throughout project(s), namely:
  • Issue work package enquiries to subcontractors for tendering
  • Analyse subcontract tenders
  • Evaluate subcontractor interim valuations
  • Provide advice to Client on subcontractor variations (entitlement and quantum of change)
  • Evaluate entitlement and quantum of subcontractor variations
  • Evaluate and agree subcontractor final accounts upon Subcontract completion
  • Advise Client on authorising release of retention monies at end of Defects Correction Period

Background/Skills:

  • Currently working as a Senior QS / Managing QS
  • Thorough working knowledge of NEC3
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management/multi-tasking skills
  • Experience of managing junior Surveyors
  • Able to prioritise effectively
  • Excellent IT skills (MS Office & SharePoint)
  • Strong attention to details/accuracy
  • Flexible & proactive

Qualifications:

  • An HNC/HND/BSc in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or by experience
