Legal & General have appointed Willmott Dixon to build the first phase of a £120m Net-Zero Retirement Home at the Caddington site in Bedfordshire. 80 of a total of 200 apartments will be built in the initial stage, with the entire project expected to take 5 years. The development claims to be the first Net-Zero retirement home in the UK and will be achieved via heat pumps, photovoltaics, superior quality insulation and fabric; and mechanical heat vent recovery units. 10% of the parking spaces will have electric vehicle charging infrastructure in place, with the facilities in place to progressively upgrade to 100% EV.
