While we are glad that some of our Irish workers can get back to work on the 12th of April, we are utterly disappointed that the restrictions have been left in place on non-residential construction projects. We concur with the statements made by Mr. Tom Parlon on behalf of the Construction Industry Federation. A unified effort has been made across the country so as to design and implement safety measures, which bore fruit; the numbers in the construction sector were minimal. On the backdrop of such results, the housing crisis, the cost to the Exchequer and the risk of 20,000 construction workers losing their job, we don’t understand the bases upon which the decision was made.
We call on the government to reconsider its decision.
