Investment projects worth €400m and with the potential to create 200 Construction Jobs have been announced by Limerick City and County Council. The proposal comprises three sites, Thomondgate, Hyde Road Park (site behind Bourke Avenue) and Coonagh, and would be led by “Joint Venture Whitebox and Clúid”, who was chosen after an Expression of Interest on e-tenders in January of this year. The ambitions proposals include housing and even a new state-of-the-art medical facility.
The Thomondgate site would include 63 new one, two and three bed homes, and would consider both private, affordable and social schemes. The Hyde Road Park would include 36 one and two bed units, also being distributed via private, affordable and social schemes.
“Joint Venture Whitebox and Clúid” have been in contact with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center with a view to jointly developing a 150-Bed and 40 day bed hospital, as well as a medical training and research centre. The 14 hectare site would also include an eco-park, playground, crèche and coffee shop; and 108 1 to 4 bed affordable and social homes.
The objective is to begin the planning process in the second quarter of 2021 with a view to the project lasting 3 to 5 years.
