Stormont is considering the approval of a £7m to £9m footbridge which would be constructed across the Lagan, opposite the Gasworks site and would take 2 years to complete. Although the project has been discussed for several years, it is hoped that a positive decision is about to be made. The project would be a huge boost to the city in its quest to move towards encouraging walking and cycling as a mode of transport. It would be complementary to the cycle and foot bridge at the Stranmillis and Annadale Embankments, a £4.8m project, which is about to be completed.
